The EcoTarium’s “Minds-On Science: Experiencing Animals through Visual Thinking Strategies” will use the facilitation technique Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) to ask students to look carefully at live animals and natural history objects, talk about what they observe, and back up their ideas with evidence. VTS discussions create a respectful environment in which students exercise flexible and rigorous thinking and strengthen language and listening skills. As they closely observe natural history objects and live animals, students will develop personal connections to the natural world, advancing their abilities to find meaning within the natural and human-made ecosystems that surround us.
