Adler Planetarium

Operation Airlift is a day-long engineering competition that challenges students to utilize science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) skills to design, build, test, and present a prototype remotely-operated vehicle attached to a helium-filled weather balloon.

Working in teams of four to six, students are challenged to balance a series of tasks, including tracking expenses and income, building a working prototype, communicating on social media, and delivering a final presentation. STEM mentors provide assistance and encouragement throughout the development and design processes, while Adler experts are on-hand to provide additional assistance and serve as the judging panel.
